    UIL 6A Academics Spring Meet
    Multiple LISD students had an impressive showing at the UIL 6A Academics Spring Meet. Flower Mound High School's Ritesh Kanchi was named state champ in Computer Applications; Brenden Kline earned 5th place in Computer Applications; Advay Bhattacharya received second place in Social Studies; and the FMHS team of Advay Bhattacharya, Dylan Zhao, Riya Addula, and Rajit Goel were named state champs in Social Studies. Hebron High School's Hailey Dirks was named state champ in Feature Writing while the HHS Team placed second in Journalism. Lewisville High School/LHS Harmon's Sonika Harish received second place in spelling/vocabulary. Marcus High School's Vincent Nguyen received third place in Calculator Applications.

    ASCA School of Excellence Award
    LISD STEM Academy at Donald Elementary and Liberty Elementary Schools were named 2021 American Student Council Association School of Excellence Award winners. These councils were selected based on their submission of projects in the areas of community service, student leadership, citizenship, and school spirit that were completed during the 2020-2021 school year. Only eight campuses nationwide received this award.

    VASE State Medalists
    Six LISD students received medals at the 2021 Visual Arts Scholastic Event. Hebron 9's Brooklyn Endsley (Kaizen); Hebron High School's Ashley Chon (Already Gone) and Claire Song (Ukiyo: The Floating World); LHS Harmon's Alexis Brinker (My Hopes And Dreams) and Naima Calhoun (Fly Away); and The Colony High School's Haley Courtney (Lady Bug).     30th annual Dallas Morning News Awards
    Hebron High School's (The Hawk Eye) Katelyn Fox and Marcus High School's (The Marquee) Madi Olivier made the Most Valuable Staffers list, joining 12 other DFW-area student journalists.

    Marcus High School student Brooke Luther was named the winner in the Visual Sweepstakes category. The DMN wrote that her images were "well-composed" and "accentuated both angles and motion effectively." Luther was also named the winner of the Photography Portfolio category.     Marcus High School student Hyunsung Na was named the winner of the Commentary category. View his submission here. His commentary was also named an excellent personal column in the 2021 TAJE Best of Texas contest.

    THSBC DFW Central District Championship
    Lewisville High School bowling team won the THSBC DFW Central District Championship. The team includes Abel Castilleja, Noah Gonzales, Cora Dowell-Simmons and Raul Castilleja Jr.

    Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
    Andi Pearson of Flower Mound High School received a silver medal in the competition for exceptional work in drawing and illustration. Only 2,000 works received a national medal, which places Pearson’s artwork “Monumental” within the top 1% percent of all submissions received.

    TSA State Competition
    The Texas Technology Student Association, or TSA, state competition saw Flower Mound High School and Hebron High School claiming high honors. TSA is a national association of students engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and the arts with a membership of more than 250,000 strong. Flower Mound, which received first place in school awards for high schools with 14-27 entries, took home four medals. The Jaguars won first place in the software development and video game design categories. They also took third place in biotechnology design and board game design. Flower Mound is coached by Ralph Szdlik. Hebron won first place in music production and second place in coding. The Hawks are coached by Kari Nathan.

    ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year
    Lewisville ISD has been named a recipient of the 2021 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

    UIL 6A Girls Soccer Championship
    The Flower Mound High School girls soccer team won the University Scholastic League’s 2021 State 6A Championship on April 16 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas, the second championship title in program history.

    UIL 6A State Swim Meet
    Flower Mound High School junior Julia Wozniak finished 3rd in State in the 100 Breaststroke.

    UIL 5A State Wrestling Meet
    The Colony High School senior Elizabeth Grabiec claimed the UIL 5A Girls State Wrestling championship (165). TCHS senior Hudson Herring also made it to the state title match. He finished as the UIL 5A Boys State (132) runner-up.

    NTTA Student Safety Video Contest
    FMHS junior Isaac Littleton recently won NTTA's Student Video Contest. Contestants were tasked with creating a short video that conveys a safe driving message: eliminating distracted driving or seat belt safety. NTTA received several submissions from across the Metroplex and Isaac’s video was the favorite among their Safety Operations Center employees, who served as judges.     Texas Association of Journalism Educators Best of Texas Awards

  • MARCH 2021

    Texas Academic Decathlon
    Students from Flower Mound, Hebron, Marcus and The Colony high schools represented Lewisville ISD extremely well at the Texas Academic Decathlon state championships (Thomas E. Moseley state championships and Frisco Invitational Meet).

    Flower Mound’s team placed second, with each team member earning a $450 scholarship. The team consists of Olivia Dilley, Sadie Larson, Kunju Menon, Jake Moore, Ashna Mulastanam, Ishaan Phatak, Rish Balaji, Jordan Mears, and Miguel Murray. Individually, Sadie Larson brought home a silver medal in speech, and Miguel Murray a silver in math. Flower Mound is coached by Allie Schmaltz.

    Hebron, whose team finished as a regional champion for the first time in school history and placeed 8th in Large School, were led by Sammi Kwon and Vidhi Pujara’s gold medals in speech and literature scholastic, respectively. Kwon also won silver in music honor and a bronze in art honor. Akshaya Kummetha won a silver medal in art scholastic, while Collin Furnival took home the bronze in music varsity. Hebron is coached by Donna Friend and Travis Zuber.

    Marcus High School's Academic Decathlon team placed 19th in Large School. Marcus was led by Zach LaMendola’s gold medal in speech. Kaitlyn Williams had a huge day, claiming four medals: silver medals in music and social science, and bronze medals in art and language and literature. Jia Lin won a silver medal in speech. Marcus is coached by David Pike and Kaite Walta.

    The Colony High School's Academic Decathlon team won fifth place at the state competition, the highest place achieved in the school’s history. For achieving fifth place, all members of the team will receive a $600 scholarship. Team members include:  Rafay Tareen, Alexandra Mendoza, Jai Nagineni, Ryan Arnold, Curtis Vo, Luis Arellano, Ashton Malone, Leydon Goble, and Adriana Acevedo. Some students also received individual state awards as well. In the scholastic level, Ryan Arnold received a silver medal in art and a silver medal in literature. In the varsity level, Leydon Goble received a bronze medal in interview and a silver medal in art, and Ashton Malone received a bronze medal in literature and a gold medal in social science. The Colony is coached by Cheryl Chupe and Curry Goff.

    CREST awards
    This school year, 38 Lewisville ISD campuses received the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in Texas award, an honor recognizing outstanding counseling programs. From college and career readiness to equipping students with the social and emotional skills necessary to be successful in and out of the classroom, school counselors take on many roles to help students prepare for a future they create.     Common Sense Media Recognized District

    Common Sense, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families and educators navigate a digital world, has recognized Lewisville ISD as a Common Sense District. LISD’s commitment to teaching and emphasizing the importance of digital citizenship led to the coveted distinction. To date, nearly all of the district’s elementary and middle schools have been recognized as a Common Sense School. Read more

    National and State CTO of the Year 
    Lewisville ISD Chief Technology Officer Bryon Kolbeck was named the Consortium for School Networking’s National CTO of the Year. The Frank Withrow Outstanding CTO of the Year Award recognizes a standout Co-Sin member whose leadership has helped transform their school district. In February, the Texas K-12 CTO Council honored Kolbeck with the Grace Hopper Award, the organization’s “Outstanding CTO of the Year” distinction.

    TMEA All-State Roster
    Lewisville ISD is proud to announce that 57 high school band, choir and orchestra students from across the district earned distinction as a 2021 Texas Music Educator Association (TMEA) All-State Musician.

    Beginning each fall, more than 70,000 high school students across the state audition to advance through several stages to perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part.

    These students have earned the highest honor available to high school musicians in the State of Texas. Their achievement represents the foundational music education programs and development through LISD elementary, middle, and high school settings. Congratulations!

    TMEA Honors Performance 
    The Flower High School Wind Symphony was selected as the 2021 6A TMEA Honor Band. The FMHS Wind Symphony, under the direction of Brent Biskup and Jana Harvey, submitted recordings of the 2020 organization, which earned top honors by a state panel of adjudicators. As this year’s TMEA conference will be presented in a virtual format, the group prepared and pre-recorded its performance for the honor concert program. TMEA Convention registrants were able to view the recording during the virtual event in February. Congratulations, FMHS!

    Tech Titans STEM Excellence Award
    Tech Titans awarded the following LISD teachers as recipients of the STEM Challenge honor: Ms. Kari Nathan, Ms. Kim Mosely and Mr. Gary Ryman.
    Ms. Kari Nathan for keeping her students engaged with “Genius Hour,” to help and motivate them to participate virtually in a nationwide rocket competition during the pandemic. Ms. Kim Mosely for the Titration Lab as she made Chemistry Lab pandemic-friendly. "Students are not only learning chemistry; because of her they are loving chemistry,” a student said. Mr. Gary Ryman for the Hebron Space Science and Engineering Rover Development Lab. He carried out a grant for OLLIE robots and by modifying the pre-pandemic hands-on experience, he created an “awesome” lesson plan to make the robots safely accessible for all.

    UIL Spirit State Championships
    Congratulations to Lewisville High School's Cheer and Bell Crew for earning 2nd place in the Coed Division at the 2021 UIL Spirit State Championships held at the Fort Wort Convention Center in Fort Worth Jan. 13-15.

    Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete of the Week
    Erin Bonehill, a senior softball player at Lewisville High School, was named one of Dale Hansen's The North Texas Buick Dealers Scholar Athlete of the Week. Her segment aired Jan. 17 on WFAA.

    6A UIL State Marching Band Contest 
    Congratulations to the Hebron High School, Flower Mound High School, and Marcus High School Bands for earning 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place respectively at the 2020 6A UIL State Marching Band Contest held at the Alamodome in San Antonio Texas on Dec. 15.

    6A Cross Country State Championship
    Flower Mound High School claimed the University Interscholastic League Class 6A girls cross country state championship on Nov 24 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock. It was the first girls cross country state title for the Lady Jags, who had posted top-5 finishes in each of the previous three years. The Lady Jags totaled 75 points to hold off runner-up Southlake Carroll (96) and The Woodlands (108) on the five-kilometer (3.1-mile) course. The FMHS team was compiled of Ally Buemi, Natalie Cook, Nicole Humphries, Virginia Knight, Samantha Humphries, Hannah McLaughlin and Miranda Vreeland. Cook, who is the daughter of head coach Andrew Cook, led the way with a time of 18 minutes, 5.94 seconds. Her time was good for seventh overall. 

    Sandy Hook Promise Start With Hello Week Awards
    Lewisville ISD STEM Academy at Valley Ridge is one of eight schools selected for the Sandy Hook Promise Start With Hello Week Awards. Sandy Hook Promise, a leading youth violence prevention organization, launched the awards in tandem with “Start with Hello Week,” its national campaign to recognize school efforts to prevent bullying. To qualify for the award, Valley Ridge had to demonstrate active student leadership, creativity of expression, broad community reach, and concrete plans and commitment to continue the "Start with Hello" program. Valley Ridge received an award plaque, cash prize, and free admission to the Annual SAVE Summit to share its stories and activities with students from across the country.

    American Student Council Association’s 2020 School of Excellence Award Winners
    Congratulations to the 2020 American Student Council Association School of Excellence Award winners: Donald, Garden Ridge and Liberty (3 of 19 winners). 

    These councils were selected based on their submission of projects that their council completed during the 2019-2020 school year as well as their student council constitution and election procedures. Councils were also required to submit letters of recommendation from their School Principal and Student Council President. All winners are members of the American Student Council Association. 

    Texas Music Educators Association Distinguished Administrator
    The Texas Music Educators Association has awarded The Colony High School Principal Dr. Tim Baxter with the honorable distinction as a TMEA Distinguished Administrator. Each year, TMEA recognizes upper-level school administrators across the state who have been instrumental in preserving quality music education programs on their campuses and in their districts. 

    National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Language
    Annie Rivera, LISD World Languages & Spanish Immersion Administrator, has been named NADSFL District Supervisor of the Year.
