About

  • Lewisville ISD believes in a structured and gradual-release approach to literacy instruction.

Structured literacy acts as a roadmap to guide students as they progress along their literacy path. By systematically introducing foundational language skills (phonological awareness, print concepts, phonics, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary), we empower learners to grasp the complexities of language through explicit instruction, targeted support, and ample practice.

We allow for flexibility, creativity, and exploration, ensuring that students are exposed to a wide range of texts, genres, and literary experiences. By incorporating elements of teacher read-alouds, shared reading, small group instruction, and independent reading, students develop comprehension, fluency, a deeper appreciation for literature, and a sense of autonomy in their literacy journeys.

Our literacy philosophy aligns with the latest research and best practices, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of literacy education while staying true to our core belief: that literacy is a transformative force that unlocks doors to a world of knowledge, imagination, and empathy.
