Volunteer/Background Check Application:
using a Social Security number
Step 1: Create an account in TJN. If you already have an account, then log in using your username and password you set up when the account was created.
Step 2: Once you are logged in...On the left side of the screen, select Add New Application. Click here for a screen shot of where to make the selection.
Step 3: Select Volunteer/Student Observer and Start Application. Click here for a screen shot of where to make the selection.
Step 4: Complete the Volunteer Application screens. If you do not wish to provide your High School or Post High School Education information, then input N/A in the required areas on the education screen.
without a Social Security number
For those volunteer applicants who do not have a Social Security Card or for those who do not wish to provide their Social Security number.
The completion of this form instead of the application in TJN will take additional time for approval. If a criminal history matches your name and date of birth, then you may be required to provide additional information to verify whether you are eligible for volunteering.
School volunteers are a key part of a successful school and the LISD encourages public involvement at all levels of the District. LISD Board Policy requires that every volunteer undergo a background check before being allowed to work on a site. This is conducted automatically once an application is submitted.
- All volunteers should allow up to 3 weeks for processing.

Board Policy: "The District shall obtain criminal history record information on persons the District intends to employ and on persons who ... intend to serve as volunteers for district campuses." All volunteers at Lewisville ISD campuses must complete a criminal history background check, online, at the LISD website.
How often does the District require a Criminal History Check to be run?: Volunteer applications will remain active for 3 school years. A volunteer must reapply every 3 years in order to be considered for volunteer approval. If there is information or a question about a criminal history, the District will run a new background prior to the three-year renewal. You may contact your child's campus to see if you are currently an approved volunteer.
LISD Employees or Substitutes do NOT need to complete a Volunteer Application.
By completing this application online, you are also agreeing with an electronic signature to having us request this background check. The school district pays for the actual background check; principals will have access to the "real time" volunteer list.
