Special Education Supports & Services

    This instructional arrangement/setting is for providing Special Education and related services to a student who is placed on a job with regularly scheduled direct involvement by Special Education personnel in the implementation of the student's IEP. This instructional arrangement/setting shall be used in conjunction with the student's individual transition plan and only after the school district's career and technology classes have been considered and determined inappropriate for the student. 19TAC 89.83(c)(9)

     

    Community Based Vocational Instruction

     

    Participants will be youth with physical and/or mental disabilities for whom competitive employment at or above the minimum wage level is not immediately obtainable and who, because of their disability, will need intensive on-going support to perform in a work setting.

     

    Participation will be for vocational exploration, assessment or training in a community-based placement work site under the general supervision of public school personnel.

     

    Community-based placements will be clearly defined components of individual education programs developed and designed for the benefit of each student. The statement of needed transition services established for the exploration, assessment, training or cooperative vocational components will be included in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

     

    Transition Services (Individual Transition Planning)

     

    Transition services means a coordinated set of activities for a student with a disability that -

     

    (1) is designed within an outcome-oriented process, that promotes movement from school to post-school activities, including post secondary education, education, vocational training, integrated employment (including supported employment), continuing and adult education, adult services independent living or community participation.

    (2) is based on the individual student's needs, taking into account the student's preferences and interests; and

    (3) includes instruction, related services, community experiences, the development of employment and other post school adult living objectives, and if appropriate, acquisition of daily living skills and functional vocational evaluation.

     

    Transition services for students with disabilities may be Special Education, if provided as specially designed instruction or related services, if required to assist a student with a disability to benefit from Special Education.

     

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 1997 - Sec. 300.29
