  • The purpose of In-home/Parent training is to assist in the generalization of critical skills and behaviors learned at school into the home environment and those learned in the home environment into the school setting. Examples of critical skill areas include behavior, communication and self-help. In-home/Parent training provides school staff the opportunity to model to parents effective teaching and behavior management techniques used to implement the child's BIP/IEP goals developed by the ARD Committee. In-home/Parent training requires close colloaboration between school staff and parents so that the child experiences a consistent approach in both settings. In general, Parent Training is provided prior to consideration of In-Home Training because teaching parents child management skills usually results in better generalization of skills between environments.
