PSAT
-
Beginning in grade 8, students in LISD have the opportunity to engage in assessments to get early feedback in the areas that matter the most for college and career readiness (CCMR). Participation in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Tests (PSAT) throughout high school can help students to measure their own progress toward their goals.
-
Grade 8: Each 8th grade student will participate in the PSAT 8/9. This assessment will set the baseline for identifying strengths and skills that might need practice for improvement. PSAT 8/9 score reports will come with readiness benchmarks and guidance to help explore careers and potential interests.
-
Grade 10: Each 10th grade student will participate in the PSAT 10. Content on the PSAT 10 is very similar to the SAT, with reading, math, and writing and language sections. Scores can be compared across examinations in order to see progress in an area. The PSAT 10 gives you valuable practice for the SAT, and it opens opportunities for scholarships and recognition.
-
Grade 11: 1th grade students may pay to take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and are encouraged to participate. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet other program entry requirements specified in the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide will enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Please see information at National Merit Scholarship to read about the program. All students who take the test will receive an access code for My College QuickStart when the results are distributed. This site gives a personalized online PSAT report, personalized SAT study plan, and an interactive college, major, and career search.
Students are not able to demonstrate their readiness for college (CCMR) with any of the PSAT exams, but the experiences are critical to student success on future high-stakes entrance assessments.
