Student Discipline
Appeal Process
-
Lewisville ISD has adopted a student discipline appeal process for a student/parent to appeal a student’s out-of-school suspension (OSS), placement in the LISD Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP), or expulsion to the Denton County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP). The following is the process by which a student/parent can file such an appeal in LISD.
Your child is required to serve the disciplinary placement as assigned while this appeal process is pending – filing an appeal does not postpone the placement. The appeals process is only afforded to students who are enrolled in LISD. If a student is withdrawn prior to a requested or scheduled appeal hearing, the hearing will not be held.
Board Policy FNG, FOC, and FOD govern disciplinary appeals processes and can be located HERE. If you have questions about the LISD student discipline appeal process, please contact Student Services at studentservices@lisd.net or 469-713-5206.

Level One Appeal
Level One

Step 1: Completely fill out and print the Level One student discipline appeal form: ENGLISH | SPANISH
Step 2: Submit the Level One form to the principal of the campus at which the student is enrolled by email, by fax, or in person within three (3) school days of receiving the disciplinary placement order from a campus administrator.
Step 3: The campus principal will contact you to set up a Level One hearing. At this hearing, you will have the opportunity to fully explain your concerns and submit to the principal any documents you think he or she should consider in making a determination. Level Two Appeal
Level Two
If you disagree with the campus principal’s decision, you may file a Level Two appeal. A student's out-of-school suspension (OSS), placement in the LISD Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP), or expulsion to the Denton County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) can be appealed to Level Two. In-school suspension (ISS) or disciplinary consequences that do not result in removal from placement cannot be appealed past the campus principal. This appeal must be filed within three (3) school days of the date you received the Level One written response.
Step 1: Completely fill out and print the Level Two student discipline appeal form: ENGLISH | SPANISH
Step 2: Submit the Level Two appeal form PLUS the principal's written Level One hearing response to the Director of Student Services in one of the following methods:
- Scan and email the form to studentservices@lisd.net
- Submit the form in person at the Lewisville ISD Administrative Center (Welcome Center Entrance)
1565-C W. Main St., Lewisville, TX 75067
Step 3: The Director of Student Services will contact you to set up a Level Two hearing with the District Discipline Review Committee, which is comprised of LISD administrators who are not administrators at your child’s school. At this conference, you may fully explain your concerns to the committee, but please note that you may not enter any new information that was not submitted at Level One. The committee will provide a written response to your appeal.

Level Three Appeal
If you disagree with the District Discipline Review Committee’s decision, you may file a Level Three appeal. This appeal must be filed within three (3) school days of the date you received the Level Two written response
Step 1: Completely fill out and print the Level Three student discipline appeal form: ENGLISH | SPANISH
Step 2: Submit the Level Three appeal form to the Director of Student Services in one of the following methods:
- Scan and email the form to studentservices@lisd.net
- Submit the form in person at the Lewisville ISD Administrative Center (Welcome Center Entrance)

Step 3: The Office of the Chief Schools Officer will contact you to notify you of when your Level Three appeal will be heard by the Board of Trustees. Level Three hearings are typically heard at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting, but may be heard at a later meeting depending on timing and other matters before the Board. At the conclusion of the hearing and after it deliberates, the Board typically announces its decision regarding the appeal in open session at that same meeting. Once the Board has made a determination at Level Three, the LISD student discipline appeal process is concluded.
