• Middle school students in LISD engage in more detailed course and career exploration and have opportunities to select both core and elective coursework based on their interests.

Middle school opportunities will focus on exposing students to wealth of courses in LISD and connecting those choices to future career pathways:

    • Middle school students will receive guidance lessons referred to as Future Pathways that focus on more in-depth career and college exploration.  Texas OnCourse serves as a resource for these lessons on campus.
    • Classroom teachers will continue to use the rich resources of our community to connect and design learning experiences that showcase careers.
    • During the spring semester of 8th grade, students will meet with counselors to complete a basic 4-year plan and declare an endorsement for graduation. This plan, required by the Texas Education Agency, helps students plan a set of courses that meet graduation and endorsement requirements.  An endorsement is a proposed area of focus that will define a set of courses to be taken in high school.  Parents can see this plan in Skyward Family Access at the end of the 8th grade year.
    • All 8th grade students will visit the Career Centers in the fall each year prior to high school registration to learn more about the course offerings and the course pathways that exist in LISD
    • Middle school students are invited to consider one of the many Honors courses that are available in all the core subject areas.  These courses are open to any student with an interest in the course.  See Honors Courses for additional information.
    • Middle school students are invited to consider selecting one of the CTE pathways that begin in middle school as one of their electives.  This early opportunity will provide students with a direct ramp onto the course pathway and insight into their interest in the area. In some cases,  the opportunity to leverage what students are not interested in may be just as valuable to what they do find engaging.
