The Lewisville ISD Grievance Process
-
Lewisville ISD has adopted a grievance process for the purpose of resolving employee, student/parent, and public concerns as expediently and efficiently as possible.
Before filing a grievance, and pursuant to LISD Board Policy, the District strongly encourages each individual to attempt to resolve his or her concerns with the applicable campus or department administrator or employee. The District believes it is typically in the best interest of everyone involved to informally resolve concerns if at all possible. Please keep in mind that any applicable timelines for filing a grievance are not affected by an attempt at informal resolution.
However, if an informal resolution is unsuccessful or not appropriate in a particular circumstance, the following is the process by which an individual may file a grievance in LISD:
Step 1: Determine which LISD grievance policy is applicable to your complaint, make sure your complaint is appropriately addressed by that policy, and make sure you are familiar with all requirements of that policy:
- If you are an employee complaining about an employment matter, Board Policy DGBA (Local) applies.
- If you are a Lewisville ISD student or a parent/guardian of a Lewisville ISD student complaining about a student matter, Board Policy FNG (Local) applies.
- If you are a member of the community (or otherwise do not fit into either of the above two categories) complaining about anything else related to Lewisville ISD, Board Policy GF (Local) applies.
Step 2: Print and completely fill out the appropriate Level One form:
- Employee Level One Grievance Form (English) (Spanish)
- Student/Parent Level One Grievance Form (English) (Spanish)
- Public Level One Grievance Form (English) (Spanish)
If you are unable to print out a form, you may request a paper copy of the form from any campus or other building in the District.
Step 3: Submit the Level One form to the LISD Office of Legal Services as follows:
- Scan and e-mail the form to grievances@lisd.net;
- Submit the form in person to the Lewisville ISD Administrative Center, 1565A W. Main St., Lewisville, TX 75067;
- Mail the form to the LISD Office of Legal Services, P.O. Box 217, Lewisville, TX 75067; or
- Fax the form to the (972) 350-9506.
Step 4: An LISD administrator will contact you to discuss the grievance and set up a Level One conference. At this conference, you will have the opportunity to fully explain your concerns and submit to the Level One administrator any documents you think he or she should consider in making a determination. The Level One administrator will submit to you a written response to your concerns.
Step 5: If you are not satisfied with the Level One administrator’s decision, you may file a Level Two appeal within 10 District business days of the date you received the written response:
- Employee Level Two Appeal Form (English) (Spanish)
- Student/Parent Level Two Appeal Form (English) (Spanish)
- Public Level Two Appeal Form (English) (Spanish)
Paper copies of these forms are also available at any District campus or other building. You may submit the Level Two appeal form to the Office of Legal Services in any of the same manners outlined at Level One above.
Step 6: Another LISD administrator will contact you to discuss your appeal and set up a Level Two conference. At this conference, you may fully explain your concerns to the Level Two administrator, but please note that you may not make any new complaints or enter any new information that was not submitted at Level One. The Level Two administrator will submit to you a written response to your concerns.
Step 7: If you are not satisfied with the Level Two administrator’s decision, you may file a Level Three appeal within 10 District business days of the date you received the written response:
- Employee Level Three Appeal Form (English) (Spanish)
- Student/Parent Level Three Appeal Form (English) (Spanish)
- Public Level Three Appeal Form (English) (Spanish)
Paper copies of these forms are also available at any District campus or other building. You may submit the Level Three appeal form to the Office of Legal Services in any of the same manners outlined at Level One above.
Step 8: The Superintendent’s office will contact you to notify you of when your Level Three appeal will be heard by the Board of Trustees. Level Three hearings are typically heard at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting but may be heard at a later meeting depending on timing and other matters before the Board. At the conclusion of the hearing and after it deliberates, the Board typically announces its decision regarding the grievance in open session at that same meeting. Once the Board has made a determination at Level Three, the LISD grievance process is concluded.
If you have questions about the LISD grievance process, please contact the Office of Legal Services at (469) 948-8015.
