Hello! I'm Michelle Nyquist and I am beginning my 15th year of teaching English Language Arts in Lewisville ISD. This will be my 12th year as a Fighting Farmer, starting with English I at the Harmon campus, and now with English III at LHS Main. I earned my degree at the University of North Texas, and worked for LISD as a colorguard instructor and AVID tutor during that time. I am a proud product of this district, and I'm so happy to be sending my own two children to LISD schools as well. I am passionate about teaching reading and writing, and in my free time, I also enjoy music, the outdoors, and making memories with my family.

English Language Arts builds more than just reading and writing skills; we explore what makes us human, we gain new perspectives, and we examine and share our own perspectives and unique personalities. In this course, we will be reading texts from several genres grouped within common themes. We will learn to think critically about what we are reading in order to deepen our understanding. We will develop expository and argumentative writing in order to express our thoughts in an organized and cohesive way. We will read novels that are self-selected and practice "reading like a writer;" in other words, examining what the author does well and applying those elements to our own writing. English is a complex language, and I can't wait to explore, create, and grow with you!
