Kim Coppens

Mrs. Kim Coppens is excited to join the VLA Math team! She has served in LISD for six years as a Math Teacher at Flower Mound High School and Huffines Middle School. She strives to teach the whole student and enjoys the challenge and flexibility of the virtual classroom. She is a doctoral student at Dallas Baptist University, planning to complete her research in “Retaining Millennial Secondary Teachers” in Spring 2022.

Teaching is a second career for Kim with her first in Human Resources leadership. When she moved to Texas in 2013, she learned that Texas needs teachers and stepped up to be part of the solution. As a lifelong learner, she is motivated to grow each day to make a positive difference in the world. She cares about her students’ social, emotional, and physical health along with their ability to use math to solve everyday problems.

Kim is married to her college sweetheart Jim and they have raised three children: Jenna, a high school English/Theatre teacher and graduate of UNT; Jon, a private equity associate and graduate of UT-Austin; and, Kayla, a nursing student at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Just as she has nurtured each of her unique children, she delights in helping her students find their passions and purpose, and make action plans to achieve them.
