Dr. Kim Coppens has served in LISD for over 8 years as a Math Teacher for the Virtual Learning Academy, Flower Mound High School, and Huffines Middle School. She strives to teach the whole student and enjoys the challenge and flexibility of the virtual classroom. She completed her doctorate at Dallas Baptist University with the published work of “A Generational Study of the Value and Perceived Presence of Retention Factors for Secondary Teachers.” She serves as a Research Methodology Committee Member on quantitative research studies at Dallas Baptist University and as a Doctoral Coach to research students.

Teaching is a second career for Kim, with her first in Human Resources leadership. When she moved to Texas in 2013, she learned that Texas needs teachers and stepped up to be part of the solution. As a lifelong learner, she is motivated to grow each day to make a positive difference in the world. She cares about her students’ social, emotional, and physical health along with their ability to use math to solve everyday problems.

Kim is married to her college sweetheart Jim and they have raised three children: Jenna, a high school English/ESL/Spanish teacher and graduate of UNT; Jon, a private equity associate and graduate of UT-Austin; and, Kayla, a cardiac nurse and graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Just as she has nurtured each of her unique children, she delights in helping her students find their passions and purpose, and make action plans to achieve them.
