Online Teaching: Beginning the Journey
If you are looking to become certified as an online K-12 instructor in Texas, you have come to the right place.
Lewisville ISD offers the Online Teaching: Beginning the Journey course. In this course you will begin your journey into online learning. You will learn about the pedagogy involved in online instruction so that you can facilitate engaging and meaningful courses in your content area. Upon successful course completion, you will earn a certificate of completion and 30 continuing education hours.

Course Description:
This is a six-week online training that meets the professional learning requirement for the Texas Virtual School Network. Participants will complete six modules designed to prepare them to teach in their specific content area and help them design initial experiences, assessments, and expectations for an online setting. Participants will encounter applicable and relevant products in individual and small group scenarios. They will explore strategies and tools that engage students and help them succeed. Participants will also gain insight from an overview of how to create accessible content in order to reach all students.

Current Course Dates
Accelerated Pace
This course covers the same materials as the 6 week course we used to offer. However, it is paced faster with the expectation that the course is completed over 4 weeks. This amounts to about 7.5 hours per week to complete. While the course is asynchronous, there are a minimum of three live sessions with additional individual workshop meetings as needed. Below are the session start dates that will be offered up to the start of summer. Summer dates will be posted at a later date.

Texas Education Agency (TEA) has announced key partnerships to implement critical functions of the Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN), including professional development for teaching online. Prior to teaching courses offered via the TXVSN, instructors are required to take TXVSN-approved professional development that specifically focuses on learning to teach effectively in the online environment.
