    Lewisville ISD offers professional learning for online teaching, a requirement for teaching on the Texas Virtual School Network. Teachers will learn about the pedagogy involved in online instruction so that they can facilitate engaging and meaningful courses in their content area. Upon course completion, participants will earn a certificate of completion and 30 SBEC credits. In this course, teachers will experience: 

    • Six weeks of training that starts with the initial setup of an engaging course and continues throughout the development of the course
    • Five modules designed to prepare teachers to teach in their specific content area and help them design initial experiences, assessments, and expectations
    • Applicable and relevant products in individual and small group scenarios 
    • Strategies and tools to engage students and help them succeed
    • An overview of how to create accessible content in order to reach all students

    Donna Henry

    Donna Henry has served the LISD community in a variety of roles since 2002. She began her LISD career as a Language Arts teacher at DeLay Middle School. She went on to serve as an Instructional Specialist with Accelerated Instructional Services and then as the Secondary Language Arts Supervisor for seven years. Prior to joining the LISD family, Ms. Henry taught in California and Illinois, and owned a consulting and eCommerce business.

    Donna joined the Virtual Learning Academy team in 2012. She has continued to grow the program and provided the vision for the current LISDblendED model. Donna is committed to student agency and serving students through personalized learning pathways.

    Donna holds a master’s degree in Education from Claremont Graduate School, a master’s degree in English from Texas Woman’s University, and a bachelor’s degree in History from California State University, San Bernardino.  Sher earned her online teacher certification through Texas A & M.

    Fun fact:  Donna was the first girl to earn a letter on a boy's athletic team in California.

    Interests:  Photography, fly fishing, and chasing after her Golden Retriever, Vespa.

     

    Carolyn Mitchell

    Carolyn Mitchell

    Carolyn Mitchell began her career in LISD in 2002 by working as a substitute teacher at the secondary level. Carolyn was a Title I Math teacher at Hedrick Middle School before joining the LISD Technology department as a secondary Instructional Technologist in 2007. Carolyn was the high school Instructional Technology Specialist before joining the Virtual Learning Academy team in 2012 as a Digital Learning Specialist. Prior to becoming part of the LISD family, Carolyn taught communications at a community college in Dover, Delaware and was a payroll coordinator and accountant for Trinity Medical Center (now Baylor Scott White) in Carrollton, Texas.

    Carolyn’s main areas of specialty for VLA are credit recovery and course design. She supports the credit recovery students and teachers during the academic year and summer school, as well as, supporting math and science Blended teachers.  Carolyn also teaches Accounting I for VLA.

    Carolyn has a master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Speech from Valdosta State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting from Wesley College. She also completed the secondary certification program at UNT and earned her online teaching certification through Texas A & M University. Carolyn has lived in Flower Mound for 28 years, and both of her children attended LISD schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

    Fun fact:  Carolyn is a certified scuba diver.

    Interests:  Baking, reading, traveling, golf and GIS.

     


     

    Texas Education Agency (TEA) has announced key partnerships to implement critical functions of the Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN), including professional development for teaching online. Prior to teaching courses offered via the TXVSN, instructors are required to take TXVSN-approved professional development that specifically focuses on learning to teach effectively in the online environment.
