Kayla West

Kayla West completed her undergraduate and graduate education at the University of North Texas. She began her teaching career in Denton and has been with Lewisville ISD since 2016. Before joining the virtual learning team, she taught at Flower Mound High School.

While Kayla has always had a passion for literature, she became interested in the study of rhetoric and writing in high school. She was an active member of her debate team and remains passionate about the power of critical thinking and writing. As a teacher, her joy is in challenging students to struggle their way to success and support them through the journey.

In her personal time, Kayla enjoys reading, hiking, cooking Whole Food Plant Based dinners for her family, and amatuer botany. She is also a Certified Texas Master Naturalist. She enjoys presenting at conferences on Henry David Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, and contemporary land ethics. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition at Texas Woman’s University. To round it all out, she can sometimes be found on the Flower Mound campus of NCTC where she teaches composition courses. She lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, two daughters, and two precious bulldogs.
