Donald job

Welcome to GT! I have a best job in the school. I have the opportunity to work with all the students in the school to develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking. I believe that students need to be exposed to different ways of thinking and risk taking in a safe environment. Every Friday Designing Dolphins takes place in my room. Classes rotate through each week where a new design challenge is presented to be solved. I started this program 8 years ago to help introduce students to the engineering design process and I wanted the students to practice collaborating while using their knowledge and skills to problem solve and think creatively.  The students  learn that when something does not work, they do not give up, they try a different way.  I hope that collaboration and perseverance becomes natural for all students.

As well as providing push in classes, I provide Gifted and Talented (G/T) services that extend and/or differentiate classroom content and learning experiences for G/T students. Qualification for gifted services is demonstrated via a combination of performance on standardized aptitude and achievement tests, as well as G/T characteristic scales, classroom planned experiences, classroom observations, and work produced. Screenings are done in Kindergarten and 2nd grade.

I am also the Student Council and KKIDS News Broadcast sponsor.

About Me

I grew up in Duncanville and received my degree from the University of Texas @ Arlington.  I am ESL and STEM certified. I started my teaching career in Palm Springs, California teaching 3rd grade. My husband, John and I moved back to Texas and I taught in The Colony (kindergarten) and then moved to Donald. This is my 33rd year of teaching and my 29th at Donald. I have taught K-3rd grades and then GT.   I love technology and love trying new ideas. I write curriculum for GT and Engineering. We recently moved to Northlake and are empty nesters. We have two children- Emily is the Theatre Director at Shadow Ridge Middle School and Jake works  in IT. We have a German Shepard named Sasha.  When I’m not at school I am either watching Emily in theatre, walking my dog, watching tv, or traveling.

Fun fact- We have been to Disneyland 15 times and Vegas over 20! I love to watch crime mysteries, historical dramas, and sports.  Go Cowboys!
