    Dual Credit Information

What is Dual Credit? Students can receive college credit and high school credit from the same course. Students get to experience college while still having the support of high school.

Dual Credit saves money. For 3 hours of college credit the cost is $165. This saves 50%-75% off the price of the same course at a 4 year school. Only additional cost is for textbooks (online/book). Scholarships are offered for Dual Credit students during certain windows of time. The scholarship window is February 1st - April 15th. If a student is on Free/Reduced Lunch, they will qualify for a tuition fee waiver. See Ms. Johnson for more information.

★ Dual Credit courses are offered at the Marcus campus, online, or at the NCTC campus. Students receive college credit with a passing grade in the course. Dual credit courses are the same GPA weight as AP courses.

★ Current Dual Credit courses offered at the Marcus campus are English 3, English 4, US History, US Government, Economics, and College Algebra. Other Dual Credit courses are available online or at the NCTC campus. Courses can be taken during the summer, fall, or spring semesters. Other courses could potentially be on our campus depending on level of interest.

★ Dual Credit courses can transfer to Texas Public Universities, as well as many other campuses. Always check with colleges of interest on transferability.

Communication between students and the Dual Credit Counselor and NCTC Staff is imperative. Parents are not able to communicate with professors. All classes follow college guidelines.

After students have added the Dual Credit course to their course requests, students will begin the registration process with the Dual Credit Counselor, Neena Johnson.

★ Many students will be required to take the TSI (Texas Success Initiative exam), unless an exemption can be provided through PSAT, SAT, ACT or STAAR EOC Scores. The TSI includes 2 sections: Reading/Writing and Math. The Dual Credit course you plan to take will determine which sections of the TSI you will have to complete.

★ The TSI will be administered at Marcus on March 21st at a discounted price. You can register for the test with Neena Johnson. The TSI is also administered at NCTC if needed.

★ If you are interested in summer sessions, the first summer session begins June 5th. The second summer session begins July 10th. (Please refer to the NCTC website for drop & withdraw deadlines.)

★ Registration for summer and fall NCTC Dual Credit ends April 6th. Students must complete the applytexas application by March 10th.

★ If you are taking a course at NCTC, you will be required to turn in a shot record with your up-to-date Meningitis shot.

★ All Dual Credit Forms and documentation must be returned to MHS Counselor Neena Johnson. It should NOT be taken to NCTC.
