Credit Options

  • The Colony High School provides opportunities for students to earn additional credits. For more information about any of these opportunities, please stop by the counseling office.

    Credit for Acceleration

    • Acceleration Exams: LISD offers acceleration exams at no cost to earn additional credits. To be eligible for the test, students cannot have previously taken or been enrolled in the course. A student must earn a 90 or above to receive credit.
    • Correspondence Courses: Students can earn credits by taking correspondence courses offered through Texas Tech University.Dual Enrollment: 11th and 12th grade students with a 3.0 GPA can take dual enrollment courses at Collin College. 
    • Dual enrollment: students can earn high school and college credit simultaneously. The following courses are offered:
      • Economics- ECON 2301
      • Introduction to Sociology- SOCI 1301
      • American National Government – GOVT 2301
      • Introduction to Psychology – PSYC 2031
      • US History to 1865 AND US History from 1865- HIST 1301 AND HIST 1302
      • College Algebra AND Statistics- MATH 1314 AND MATH 1342

    *Student’s grades in dual credit courses affect UIL eligibility.

    • LISD’s Virtual Learning Academy: LISD offers online courses. For course offerings and registration requirements, visit the VLA website. Student’s grades in VLA courses affect UIL eligibility.
    • Night School: Students can earn additional credits at LISD’s Night School at no cost. Classes begin at 4:10 p.m., and no transportation is provided. See your counselor for more details.
    • Summer School: Students can take summer school through LISD or any other TEA approved school.


    Credit for Remediation

    • Correspondence Courses: Students can earn credits by taking correspondence courses offered through Texas Tech University.
    • Credit by Exam: Credit by exams are offered to students who need to repeat a course due to failure. Absent failures are not eligible for the exam. The cost is $30 per exam. Credit by exams can only be taken one time. Students must earn a 70 or above to receive credit.
    • Night School: Students can earn additional credits at LISD’s Night School at no cost. Classes begin at 4:10 p.m., and no transportation is provided. See your counselor for more details. 
    • Summer School: Students can take summer school through LISD or any other TEA approved school.
