What will happen if the virtual program is not able to be offered due to current legislation?
If legislation does not allow for the virtual offerings to happen as planned, then students will be required to be in person at their zoned campus.

Will my student continue to be enrolled with their current campus?
Students will enroll in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy. This will be a separate program from your student’s current campus.

Will families have the option to switch between virtual and in-person each nine weeks?
Unless the Texas Education Agency enacts requirements to change each grading period, students who enroll in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy are committing for the 2021-2022 academic year.

My child is currently on a transfer for another LISD Academy or program (ex. STEM Academy, Spanish Immersion, or Dual Language Spanish Learner). Will my student’s spot be held?
A student’s spot will not be held for the 2021-2022 or 2022-2023 school year if they choose to participate in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy during the 2021-2022 school year. However, a student can apply for the program during the enrollment periods as a new applicant. For a Spanish learner, the student would need to follow the procedures of applying to the program and testing into the program by demonstrating Spanish proficiency at the correct grade level, if space at the campus is available.

My child was in the Virtual Pathway during the 2020-2021 school year. Will they automatically enroll in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy?
No, all families interested in enrolling in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy for the 2021-2022 school year will need to complete the commitment form in May 2021. Only students who meet the eligibility considerations will be accepted into the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy.

What is the eligibility criteria for the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy?
Students must be passing all academic areas, have zero behavioral concerns, and engage in their synchronous and asynchronous work in order to have a strong attendance record. Students who are unable to meet the eligibility criteria may be removed from the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy. These students will then return to their zoned in-person campus. Additionally, the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC), ARD and/or Section 504 committees may also determine if the EVLA is the best placement beyond the applicant considerations.

My child does not have their own device. What are my options?
LISD will provide a mobile computing device for students and is the preferred device for virtual learning. This device will also be supported by LISD’s Technology HelpDesk and will have pre-installed applications the student will need.

My child receives specialized support (ex. Gifted and Talented, ESL, Specially Designed Instruction). Will they continue to receive these supports in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy?
es, students will continue to receive the specialized supports they qualify to receive through the virtual program. This may or may not be the service provider they currently have. Students receiving support that can only be offered through a full day, in-person program will need to attend an in-person campus.

My child is a Spanish learner in a Spanish Immersion or Dual Language program. Will they continue to receive Spanish supports?
No, students in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy will not receive Spanish Immersion or Spanish learner supports.

Will students switch teachers every nine weeks?
Students enrolling in the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy are committing to one year in the program, so there will not be changes in classes each nine weeks.

Will the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy follow the same calendar as in-person students?
Yes, the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy will follow the same daily hours and yearly calendar as all other elementary schools within LISD.
