Criteria Required for Successful Participation

  • Students and families must meet the following criteria to successfully complete the expectations of the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy:

    • Students and families must commit to working together with their assigned virtual teacher throughout the academic year in order to be successful
    • Students should show consistent academic achievement
    • Students should have zero major behavioral concerns
    • Students must attend and engage in classes and complete all asynchronous work within the LMS by the established due date consistently 
    • The virtual teacher and student’s Learning Coach must work together and communicate appropriately
    • The Learning Coach must allow students to complete all submitted work independently
    • The student and Learning Coach must understand their individual responsibilities in order to be successful within the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy:

     


     

Student

  • All students enrolled in virtual learning will follow guidelines outlined in Lewisville ISD’s Student Code of Conduct as well as:

    • Review weekly learning plans.
    • Follow attendance guidelines.
    • Follow LISD policy when utilizing technology.  All users are expected to use the technology in a responsible, ethical, and polite manner.  LISD reserves the right to monitor all technology resource activity.
    • Follow the designated schedule communicated by their teacher to attend class during synchronous times and complete assigned asynchronous activities.
    • Participate in learning through live class time (using proper etiquette).
    • Take responsibility for advocating for themselves.
    • Turn in school work at the direction of the assigned teacher.
    • Actively participate in virtual discussions as instructed by the teacher.
    • Submit assignments as designated on a daily basis. Some assignments may be allowed additional flexibility to submit weekly. (Example:  Friday by midnight)
    • Keep online interactions positive and constructive with peers and classroom teacher.

Parent

  • Parents of students enrolled in virtual learning will:

    • Facilitate academic support and encouragement as a learning partner to motivate your child throughout the school year in your role as a Learning Coach.
    • Ensure your child is on track with assignments and coursework
    • Provide your child with assistance on their day-to-day activities with the exception of designated independent work.
    • Assist in supporting your child’s needs by establishing and managing the daily schedule communicated by the teacher
    • Consider creating a designated learning space for your child at home to learn comfortably - free from distractions and interruptions (pets, siblings, television, etc.)
    • Maintain communication with your child’s teacher by phone, email, and/or online meetings to create a learning partnership
    • Help your child own their learning.  Provide support and encouragement, and expect your child to do their part.  
    • Make arrangements to pick up needed devices, supplies, and resources from designated campus or district location.  Maintain these devices, supplies, and resources and return them at the designated time.
    • Parents are expected to follow federal and state laws regarding student privacy and FERPA.  This includes not recording lessons or sessions and not posting photos and videos on social media.
    • Sign and abide by the Parent Memorandum of Understanding.
