  • Principles of Health Science provides students with an overview of career exploration through systems of the healthcare industry. The course focuses on ethics, leadership, cultural diversity, communication skills and an introduction to medical math and research, with an emphasis on past and current healthcare trends. Part two of Health Sciences is Medical Terminology, a Latin and Greek language-based class that studies the structure of medical terminology. Emphasis is placed on root words, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms as they apply to anatomy and physiology. Part three is Health Science Theory, which applies the knowledge and skills learned in Principles of Health Science and Medical Terminology as well as introduces students to new topics such as public health, community education, nutrition, health and wellness across life stages and infection control.

For students interested in furthering their careers in Health Sciences, Practicum in Health Science is also available. Practicum in Health Science is collaborating with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) in which students will be equipped with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in the pharmacy field or related area. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the National Sterile Products (IV) Certification and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). Practicum in Dental Assistant is also available for students to continue their Health Science Pathway.
