Mission Statement: Marcus High School is committed to providing an environment that inspires all students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners.
Motto: Pride In Excellence
Marcus High School was opened in 1981. Located in Flower Mound, Texas (about 25 miles north of Dallas), it was the second high school in the Lewisville Independent School District. In the past twenty years, the district population has grown and now has five high schools - Marcus, Lewisville HS, The Colony HS, Flower Mound HS, and Hebron HS.
Marcus is rich with tradition. Over the years, Marcus has excelled in academics, athletics, and the arts. Many important administrators, faculty members, and students have had a key role in making Marcus High School one of the finest schools in the country.
It was said that Marcus was open before it was completed. It was hard for students to learn and concentrate with the constant banging of hammers and the screeching of drills, and the fumes of paint and dust floated through the halls like fog. For the first two weeks there were only half-days, and, along with the plumbing and the electricity not working half the time, there was no A/C (which made it very uncomfortable). In the year of 1981, there was only a freshman class. Only the A, B, C, and D halls, the Commons and Cafeteria and one gym were usable, and with the library a giant "black hole" there were no books on shelves, only in boxes that filled the storage room to the ceiling. Surrounding Marcus were horse, cow, and goat pastures along with the then two-lane Morriss road.
