Degrees and Certifications:

Rita Martin

Born and raised in Connecticut, I graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BS in Art Education in 1976.

I taught 8 years Elementary Art in Canton, CT, then left to work 16 years in radio and TV. Came back to teaching high school art in Pennsylvania for 3 years, and then taught 2 years of middle and high school art in NY State while still working in radio at night. While in NY, I also began my Masters in Art Education at East Carolina University.

I moved to Texas and started at Heritage Elementary in Highland Village in 2004, where I taught Art for 4 years before transferring to Ethridge for the 2008-09 school year.

I love Ethridge Elementary, and I am so glad to be teaching here! I hope to encourage an appreciation and love for art in my students, hopefully with a life-long leisure activity or hobby, and maybe even a career!

In my spare time, I like to paint portraits, including Pet Portraits and landscapes in oil, acrylic and/or pastel. I like to knit and crochet, antiques and home remodeling projects. I am also a Police sketch artist, trained by former FBI forensic artists!

I am a proud Mom of my daughter, Caron, a UMASS graduate, who works for Barry’s Bootcamp in San Francisco, building their activewear line.
