Attendance Policy

  • ABSENCES

    • Call school before 9:00 AM to report absences.
    • Send note upon student’s return explaining absences.
    • Provide doctor’s note if child visits doctor. (Required after three consecutive days absent)
    • Only eight parent notes allowed per school year/all others require doctor’s note to be excused.
    • Absences are considered unexcused until a note/call is received.
    • Per district grading policy, unexcused absences receive zero credit for grades taken that day.
    • Absences are tracked and coded either excused or unexcused for Texas Public School Attendance Law requirements.
    • Pre-planned Absence Request form must be filled out prior to absences for personal reasons, which will be considered for excused status by the principal.

    ARRIVAL DETAILS

    • Doors open at 7:15 AM
    • 7:35 AM – Classes open for student’s arrival.
    • Arrivals after 7:45 AM are considered tardy (missing part of a day). PLEASE escort your child into the office if they arrive after the 7:45 bell.
    • Prompt and regular attendance is encouraged.
    • Medical appointments resulting in late arrival, require a note from the doctor’s office stating that child was seen that day. Without the doctor’s note, this instance is considered tardy or absent.
    • 9:00 AM - Official district attendance time. If your child is here before 9:00 AM, they will be counted as present.  If your child is not present at 9:00 AM, they will be counted absent (without a medical note for that day).
    • Attendance is encouraged regardless of attendance coding status to maintain the learning continuum and avoid missing important concepts.
    • State law requires that the school file with Texas Truancy Court through Denton County if your child misses 10 or more unexcused parts of days, including tardy or unexcused absences.

    LEAVING EARLY

    • Only sign-out early dismissals are excused with a doctor’s note upon the child’s return to school.
    • Any other sign-out early are considered “time out of placement” and will prevent your child from getting Perfect Attendance.
    • Without exception, you must notify the school of all dismissal changes and persons picking up a child early must be listed as an emergency contact in Skyward Family Access.
    • Safety and security measures for your child stipulate that parent provide a photo ID in instances of early checkout.
    • Please try to arrange doctor/dentist visits during non-school hours.
    • Allow enough time to sign your child out.  To maximize your child’s learning, student will not be called from class until you are at the school.
    • To be in compliance with district attendance policies, student will need to return to their classroom until dismissal after attending a field trip and/or school party.
