  • My name is Kara Mauldin. I am Independence Elementary’s Art Specialist. In art class, we learn about art history, art appreciation, the elements of art and principles of design, and of course, we create a lot of art! We use art mediums such as pastels, oil pastels, paint, collage, and clay.

During art creation, we can get pretty messy. Please have your students wear clothes to art class that are those that can get stained and/or messy - just in case. Or you may send a smock for him/her to keep in the classroom cubby and bring to art class as needed. I do have a few large shirts for painting time that students share if they request to wear one of them.

I have been teaching art at Independence since the school opened in 2008. Prior to that, I taught first grade for ten years with CFBISD. Before starting my public school teaching career, I was a proud member of the U.S. Army.

Every day I look forward to having fun and learning about art with all of my little Eagles!
