This is Coyote Ridge’s 5th year using the Leader in Me Program. In order to continue growth and learning at home, we will send home a newsletter each month that will focus on a different habit. We will also send home an information sheet that provides more activities and details about the focus habit. By the end of the year we will have discussed all 7 Habits. If your family participates in ALL 7 Newsletters, you will be showcased in our school as a Lighthouse Family!
We are excited to continue our journey as a Leader in Me school based on the work of Stephen Covey. Staff and students have been learning about the The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People model, which has been tailored to children and teachers in an education setting, to embrace a process that helps develop the essential life skills and characteristics students need in order to thrive in the 21st century. Centered around the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, The Leader in Me allows teachers to guide students as they find their strengths and what makes them special. We are excited to see what new leadership skills emerge as we move into year three of the program!
Each year, we decide on schoolwide Wildly Important Goals (or W.I.G.S.) that we publicize and work toward. We set a target and celebrate successes along the way! Each class contributes to these schoolwide goals along with setting grade level, classroom, and individual goals that students track in their Leadership Notebooks.
The goals for 2021-22 are still in development, but here is a sample of what we have worked on in the past. For 2019-20, Coyote Ridge Elementary had two W.I.G.S.:
- Have 85% of all K-5 students performing at a Tier 1 level or show growth each month on iStation reading assessments
- Have 97% perfect attendance each month
Each month, we tracked and shared our progress, so you can see that as of March 2020, we were making great progress on our school W.I.G.S. and we are looking forward to celebrating wins along the way this year!
