• Law Prohibiting Use of Cell Phones in School Parking Lots

Parents, there is a law making it illegal to use a cellphone while operating a vehicle on school property (including driveways and parking lots) during the school zone times. This extends the current law prohibiting the use of cellphones while operating a vehicle on a public street in a school crossing zone. Cellphones may still be used with a hands-free-device or when the vehicle is stopped. Local police will be issuing citations for offenders, so please put your cellphone away while picking up and dropping off your child. The law’s intent is to keep your eyes and attention on the road to prevent a tragedy. We all want your children to be as safe as possible.
