Hello! I am the STEM teacher for Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth grade. Your students attend my class about once a week for a focused exploration using the engineering design process. Students engage in activities which utilize all of the research they have completed in their homeroom. Throughout the school year we will investigate using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The students learn academic vocabulary through hands-on investigations.

    • Personal Biography:
Serving in the Navy as a Corpsman for nearly ten years gave me the tools and stamina to seek a higher level of education. Earning my Master’s degree in Education gave me a deep understanding of the developmental stages and learning processes children work through as they grow and mature. I moved from Oregon to Texas in 2008. I am married and have four children (five if you count my wonderful son-in-law) whose ages range from 25-14 years old. I live in a cozy house in Carrollton.

    • Students are often surprised to discover that although I have several unusual animals in my classroom, I only have three dogs at home. I have enjoyed teaching science for the last 16 years at Independence Elementary. I was a first year teacher when the school opened, but have grown with every experience the wonderful students and parents have shared over the last few years. I am excited about the years to come! Becoming a STEM teacher has been a goal for the last five years. I felt truly  blessed when I was offered an opportunity to earn my national certification.  I am looking forward to all of the engaging learning opportunities we will discover together.

      Degrees and Certifications:
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development and Elementary Education from Western Oregon University. Throughout my undergraduate program, my emphasis was in science. I earned my Master of Science in Education degree focused on cultural anthropology and teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).
