• At Hicks Elementary School, we believe that every student has the right to an academically challenging education in a nurturing and innovative learning environment. We are dedicated to developing the intellectual potential in all of our students, and serving well the unique educational, social, and emotional needs of our potential and identified Gifted and Talented students.

What are Gifted and Talented Services?
Gifted and Talented Services (GT) provide academic enrichment services for identified students demonstrating superior intellectual giftedness through standardized aptitude and achievement tests, as well as GT characteristics scales, classroom Planned Experiences, and classroom work. GT Services are designed to develop critical and creative thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and reference skills for students demonstrating gifted abilities.

Texas Administrative Code 29.121:  A gifted and talented student is a child who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who exhibits high-performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area; possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or excels in a specific academic field.  The process for identifying such students include a needs assessment for the purpose of placing students into educational programs designed to develop their potential (Reichert, 1997).
