• Welcome to the Agriculture Science Department at TECC-W, and the Floral Design pathway!

Throughout the Floral Design program, students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles and elements of floral design. In addition, students will prepare floral arrangements for special occasions using the principles and elements of design, such as designing single flower boutonnieres to multiple flower arrangements. It will also give students a hands-on opportunity to use their own creativity and artistic abilities in preparing designs. In addition, students will become more familiar with the different aspects of the floral design industry.

The overall goal of the courses is for students to be prepared for careers in the floral industry. Students need to attain academic skills and knowledge as well as technical knowledge and skills related to floral systems. They will develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply and transfer their knowledge and skills and technologies in a variety of settings. This course is designed to develop students' abilities to identify and demonstrate the principles and techniques related to floral design as well as develop an understanding of the management of floral businesses. At the conclusion of the program, students will test for certifications in the floral industry. This may include Texas State Floral Association Level 1 and Level 2 certs.
