Should I have a student tested for giftedness?
Students with gifted and talented abilities often display advanced characteristics as compared with other students the same age. If several G/T characteristics are observed on a regular basis over time, Gifted and Talented testing should be considered in order to identify possible educational needs and provide appropriate services. How do I refer a student for G/T testing?
Parents can initiate the referral process by completing the form on the LISD G/T web page. The deadline for spring testing is February 28.DeLay staff members are also encouraged to refer students for G/T testing and placement. If you believe you have a student who may benefit from receiving G/T services, first look in AWARE to see if the student has been tested in the last calendar year. If so, they must wait until they can test again. If not, please contact the parents and encourage them to complete the form on the LISD G/T web page. The G/T teacher listed below for your grade can assist with parent contacts.
Alternately, staff can refer students directly by completing a Staff Referral form. In this scenario, the student would not be tested until next fall, whereas parent referrals can be tested in the spring.
