Spinal Screenings: In compliance with Health and Safety Code, Chapter 37, all students will undergo screening for abnormal spinal curvature according to the following schedule:
- Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (or fall semester of 5th grade), and again at age 12 (or fall semester of 7th grade)
- Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14 (or fall semester of 8th grade)
If you prefer to have your student screened by your physician (form below), or wish to request an exemption, please contact your school nurse.
Acanthosis Nigricans: 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 7th grade will be screened for Acanthosis Nigricans, a condition that signals high levels of insulin in the body. This screening is done by looking at and feeling the skin on the back of the neck. If the first screening is positive, it will be followed by checking height, weight, and blood pressure. For more information go to the ANTES web site or contact your school nurse.
Students may also have vision or hearing screened at the request of their teacher or the Special Education department. Parents may request screening at any time, simply call your school nurse or stop by the health room.
