As the school nurse, there are a few guidelines of LISD that I would like all my parents to know.

At Indian Creek our goal is to keep everyone healthy!  Please make sure your child eats a nutritious breakfast every morning.  It is hard to think and study and feel good if you’re “running on empty”.

If your child is sick with a fever, please do not send him/her to school.  Students with a fever greater than 100 degrees should remain at home until they are free of fever for 24 hours.  Prior to returning to school, please do not give them Tylenol or Motrin to mask their fever.

Students are not allowed to call from the classroom if they are not feeling well (it causes quite a bit of confusion!).   They need to let their teacher know and he/she will send them to the clinic.  If, after evaluating the student I feel they are too ill to remain in school (fever over 100.4, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, etc.), I will call you and discuss their symptoms with you and whether you need to pick them up from school. Please have a current telephone number on file in case I need to reach you. 

LISD policy states all medication must be transported to and from school by an adult.  Children are not allowed to keep medications in their backpacks.  For over the counter medications (Tylenol, cough drops, allergy medication, etc.) a parent must sign a medication form.   Please have these medications labeled. This form is good for five days of school. 

Prescription medications must have a form filled out and signed by the physician and parent.  I cannot administer any medication that is not labeled with the child’s name, physician’s name, directions for use, and in the original container from the pharmacy. I cannot administer any herbal supplements, “natural remedies”, or foreign drugs at this time.

If your child has had an injury or surgery that requires an excuse from PE for a certain amount of time by the physician, we must also have a physician’s note stating he is cleared to resume all activities.

If your child is found to have lice in their hair-please contact me so that I can send out notices to their classmates-all information will be kept confidential

Please call me for any concerns you might have regarding your child.  I will be more than happy to help you.

For all students, it is wise for them to have an extra set of clothes in their backpack, accidents do happen! I have a very limited amount of clothes (that are usually out of season or not what the student wants to wear) and it will help you because I won’t have to call you to bring clothes to the school! 

If your child is ill, please call the attendance clerk.  If your child is absent from school for 3 consecutive days, we must have a physician’s note.
