Lewisville ISD Encourages Responding to 2020 Census
In a few weeks, every household across the country will receive an invitation to respond to the 2020 Census. The U.S. Census takes place every 10 years, and is a count of the country’s population and households. With the census on the horizon, Lewisville ISD is promoting awareness and encouraging the community to respond to their census invitations.
The amount of federal funds distributed to school districts, cities, and other organizations is determined by the census, as is congressional seat apportionment. With funding for areas such as Title I, special education, and free and reduced-cost lunch at stake, LISD knows an accurate population count in the upcoming census is vital to the future success of the district and its communities.
“LISD, alongside our cities and Denton County, intends to be a leader in ensuring an accurate population count for the 2020 Census,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kevin Rogers said. “Our communities can expect to see LISD advocating for all households to respond to the census."
In early February, the district launched LISD.net/counts to provide resources and information about the census. In addition, LISD is promoting the census via social media and other communication channels.
April 1 marks National Census Day, however, early responding online or by phone begins March 12. For more information, visit LISD.net/counts or 2020census.gov.
