Memorial Elementary Becomes Nationally Certified STEM Campus

Memorial also celebrated five teachers who earned the National Certificate for STEM Teaching, by giving them their white coats.

On Tuesday, Memorial Elementary was the latest LISD school to earn the National Certificate for STEM Excellence (NCSE) - Campus Certification from the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE). The NCSE recognizes individual school campuses for their commitment to and systematic support of teachers’ understanding and use of high-impact, evidence-based STEM instructional strategies.

Two representatives from NISE attended Tuesday’s ceremonies to deliver the STEM School of Excellence Award to Memorial Elementary. The representatives commended LISD’s overall commitment to STEM education, including the impressive number of teachers from around the district with the National Certificate for STEM Teaching. As of today 217 LISD teachers have this certification, which is more than any other district in the country. All nine STEM schools in LISD have completed the NCSE certification, making LISD one of five school districts in the nation to achieve the number of certified campuses.
