Campus upgrades make school feel like new.

When students stepped through the doors of Flower Mound Elementary (FME) for the first time this school year, they were greeted with a few building changes thanks to summer upgrade projects.

Construction began right after the last day of the 2017-2018 school year and continued throughout the summer break. By the time students were returning to visit their classrooms and new teacher for the first time, the entire school’s walls and bathrooms had been transformed.

“I really like the colors of the walls,” fifth-grader Lily Higginbotham said. “They are Dallas Cowboys colors!”

The new shades of blue and gray give a fresh, new look to each and every hallway.

“It looks more modern,” fifth-grader Olivia Kissinger said, “kind of like it was a whole different school than it was last year.”

"The teachers were ecstatic," FME Principal Gayle Nurre added. "Their bulletin boards have taken on a new look. They pop more than they ever did before."

Beyond the walls and into the restrooms, upgrades to the water fountains, sinks, commodes and stalls were also something new for the students to see.

Flower Mound Elementary Students “I like the unique differences from this year and last year,” fifth-grader Hank McGovern said.

"The new sinks help us not have to be crowded like the other ones," added classmate Freddy Bulmer. "They are more spread out, so more people can wash their hands at once."

Coming back from summer break always seems like a brand new experience, but it's even more unique when it feels like a different school than the one you left.

Other Lewisville ISD (LISD) campuses like Donald Elementary and Stewart’s Creek Elementary received similar treatments this summer. These renovations are made possible through the 2017 Bond Package Referendum, which also includes safety and security upgrades, additional classrooms and a new career and technology center for the students of LISD.
