LISD Seeks Input on DOI Local Innovation Plan

The existing plan is set to expire in May and the LISD Board of Trustees seeks input on revised plan.

The District of Innovation (DOI) concept, passed by the 84th Legislative Session in 2015, gives independent school districts flexibility in several areas governed by the Texas Education Code, including exemptions from requirements. One exemption under consideration, for example, is the requirement of school districts to not begin the school year until after the 4th Monday in August. Without this exemption, this would mean the school year would not end until the beginning of June.

In 2017, the LISD Board of Trustees approved a Local Innovation Plan created by a DOI Committee, made up of LISD parents, teachers, administrators and community members. This plan is set to expire by law this May, and the newly appointed DOI committee has revised the local plan.

Your input is valued as the board of trustees considers renewal of the amended plan. All questions, concerns or feedback can be sent to DOI@lisd.net. The exemptions under consideration for the revised plan can be reviewed at LISD.net/DOI.
