LISD Student-Athletes Win Big at UIL Track & Field Championships

Student-Athletes from all five LISD high schools brought home 17 total medals and FMHS claimed the state title.

Lewisville ISD student-athletes are bringing home quite a bit of hardware after a strong showing at the UIL Track & Field State Championships. Dozens of athletes from all five LISD high schools competed at the event, hosted at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

The weekend's biggest winners, Flower Mound High School's girls program, claimed the 6A team championship behind record-breaking performances from senior Natalie Cook. Cook, the nation's best distance runner and Gatorade's 2022 Cross Country Athlete of the Year, won gold in the 1,600m (4:40.29) and 3,200m (9:48.25) -- both new state records. Sophomore Samantha Humphries took home the gold in the 800m (2:07.68) and junior Riley Ward, after missing her sophomore season to an ACL injury, battled back to win the state high jump title.

FMHS junior Abigail Counts brought home two gold medals after her own dominating performances in the wheelchair 100m and 400m. Counts shattered the state record in the 400m, which she set last season, with a time of 1:07.54. She also earned a bronze medal in the seated shot put with a distance of 17-2.5.

Marcus High School junior Emma Sralla was crowned state champion in discus with a distance of 174-3. She also earned bronze in shot put with a distance of 44-3.5, leading the Marauders to an 11th overall finish at the meet.

In total, LISD student-athletes racked up 31 top-ten finishes, medalled in 17 events and claimed seven individual titles. Full results from the UIL State Track & Field Championships are below:
