Return-to-School Family Update | Sept. 11
We did it! We made it through our first week back to in-person learning in more than six months, and what a great feeling it was to reconnect face-to-face again. Whether you are an in-person, virtual or virtual plus family, we want you to know how grateful we are to be on this educational journey with you for our students. Being on campuses and seeing learning in action, whether in the classroom or through a computer screen, was refreshing and just the reminder we needed for why we do what we do every day - for our amazing students!
A few updates:
THANK YOU
We want to take a minute to recognize the incredible amount of work and dedication that our community has done as we had to shift to remote and virtual learning environments. Parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and friends - many have stepped up to be “learning coaches” in the midst of a pandemic to fill a void that our teachers aren’t able to in a virtual environment. So, we say THANK YOU for the time, energy and commitment you have shown as we partner together in the education of your children. And with grandparent’s day coming up this weekend, a HUGE thank you to all the grandparents who have jumped in to help our students and families. We’ve always said we partner with our families in the education of our students, and that statement has never been more true.
Watch this short VIDEO to hear what our campuses had to say.
LAB-CONFIRMED CASE NOTIFICATION
When lab-confirmed cases are reported to the district, staff and families at the affected school will receive an email notification from the campus. Due to state and federal privacy requirements, the name or details that may identify the individual cannot be released. Anyone determined to be a close contact will receive a separate notification with further instructions.
COVID-19 CASE TRACKER
We have received many questions about whether or not the district is going to provide a COVID-19 case tracker. The answer is yes, we will provide this information on a weekly basis at LISD.net/covidtracker. More details, including when case numbers will be compiled and posted, are available on the website.
LEARNING PATHWAY CHANGES
As a reminder, families will have the opportunity to change their learning pathway (in-person, virtual or virtual plus) choices at the end of every 9-week grading period throughout the school year. Families will be provided a form Wednesday, Sept. 16 through Skyward Family Access to submit their change requests, only if a change is wanted. We will notify you when the form is available.
ATHLETICS
Fall sports are upon us, and we are excited to see our student-athletes compete again and watch our student performers on the sidelines and during halftime shows. With that said, the governing body for school activities, the University Interscholastic League (UIL), recently issued risk mitigation guidelines for all Texas school districts to follow, including limiting game attendance to 50% capacity.
The district is doing everything we can to ensure fall seasons take place and will take a more conservative approach for the first few games to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed. With your support and cooperation, we can help keep our student-athletes, performers and entire community safe, while still enjoying a fall sports season.
If you are interested in attending athletic events this fall, we ask that you review LISD’s general guidelines for spectators and tickets. Specific guidelines will vary by campus and questions should be directed to the administration office at the campus for the game you would like to attend.
