Lewisville ISD Announces Three New Principals, New CTE Executive Director
May 13, 2019 — Lewisville ISD (LISD) announced May 13 the appointments of three new principals for the 2019-2020 school year – Chad Russell, Flower Mound High School; Beri Deister, Lakeview Middle School; Christine Van Scoyoc, Flower Mound Elementary. The district also announced the appointment of Jason Cooper as the new Career and Technical Education (CTE) Executive Director. The four candidates were approved at the May 13 Board of Trustees meeting.
Chad Russell, Flower Mound High School — Russell currently serves as the principal of Lamar Middle School, a position he has held since 2017. Prior to leading Lamar, Russell spent 10 years as an assistant principal at Flower Mound High School. In addition, he served as an LISD Summer School principal and assistant principal from 2008-2011. Before joining the FMHS administrative team in 2007, Russell taught math and coached athletics in various districts, including LISD, for 13 years. In total, he has 25 years of experience in education. Russell received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Mathematics from West Texas A&M University and also received a Master of Education from Texas A&M University—Commerce. He holds certifications in Principal (EC-12), Secondary Mathematics (6-12) and All-Level Physical Education (PK-12).
Beri Deister, Lakeview Middle School — Deister currently serves as an assistant principal at Lakeview Middle School, a position she has held since 2017. Prior to joining Lakeview’s administrative team, she served as an assistant principal at Creek Valley Middle School for seven years. In addition to her administrative experience, Deister taught in the classroom for 11 years. In total, she has 20 years of experience in education. Deister received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Master of Education in Leadership of Learning from Abilene Christian University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Abilene Christian University. Deister has certifications in Principal (EC-12), Generalist (4-8) and Secondary English (6-12).
Christine Van Scoyoc, Flower Mound Elementary — Van Scoyoc currently serves as assistant principal of LISD STEM Academy at Donald Elementary, a position she has held since 2014. In addition, Van Scoyoc served as an LISD Strategic Design Coach for two years as well as taught second and fourth grades at Wellington Elementary for 10 years. Before joining LISD, she taught sixth grade for two years in Illinois. Van Scoyoc earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Illinois State University and a Master of Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. She also received her teacher certification from Southern Illinois University. Van Scoyoc holds certifications in Principal (EC-12), Elementary Social Studies Composite (1-8), Elementary Self-Contained (1-8), Elementary Mathematics (1-8), Mathematics (4-8) and English as a Second Language Supplemental (1-8). Additional certifications include Professional Development Appraisal System (PDAS) and National Institute for STEM Education (NISE).
Jason Cooper, Executive Director of Career and Technical Education — Cooper joins LISD from the Region 10 Education Service Center (ESC), where he has held a position as an educational consultant for the Career and Technical Education program since 2017. Prior to his current role with the Region 10 ESC team, Cooper served for two years as the Career and Technical Education Coordinator for Irving ISD. He also taught business-marketing and coached athletics for five years at Irving’s MacArthur High School. Cooper received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Texas—Austin and a Master of Arts in Sports Management from Dallas Baptist University. He has certifications in Business Education (6-12), Marketing Education (8-12), Generalist (4-8) and Physical Education (EC-12). Cooper also serves on the North Texas Interlink Board of Directors as well as Anna ISD’s CTE Advisory Board.
