The Flower Mound High School Air Force Junior ROTC earned a top 10 finish at the JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl held this summer on the campus of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

FMHS Aerospace Science Instructor MSgt (Ret.) David Copland oversaw the FMHS team led by team commander Cadet Aidan Gesch and fellow cadets Jeremy Olive, Eleanor Tallman and Adrien Tran. FMHS finished ninth in the Air Force JROTC Academic competition that started with 470 high school JROTC teams across the country. Only 16 were awarded the all-expenses paid trip to the national competition on July 23-27.

“I am so proud of the dedication and effort of these students,” FMHS Senior Aerospace Science Instructor Lt Col (Ret.) David Hansen said. “They are a shining example of what a student-led activity can accomplish.”

The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl, which is sponsored by the College Options Foundation, tests cadets on their knowledge of core curriculum, such as math, science and language arts. Current events, citizenship and leadership skills are also part of the competition, while cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition and college opportunities.
