Flower Mound Girls Soccer Team Claims State Championship
Lady Jags top Austin Vandergrift 2-1 for program’s second crown.
The Flower Mound High School girls soccer team used two second-half goals from senior Riley Baker to top Austin Vandergrift 2-1 and claim the University Interscholastic League Class 6A state championship on April 16 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas.
The Lady Jags, who are coached by Misail Tsapos, finished the season with a 24-1-2 record and joined the 2016 squad by hoisting the state title trophy.
Both of Baker’s goals came on assists from Sydney Becerra. The game-winning score came at the 65:31 mark. FMHS took a 1-0 lead at 54:40 before Austin Vandergrift tied it up at 56:42.
Baker was named Championship Game Most Valuable Player. Becerra, Hallie Augustyn, Tatum Beck, Emma Hoang and Skye Leah were all named to the state championship all-tournament team.
