MS In-Person Learning Family Update
The start of the 2020-21 school year is almost here, and we are excited about the first day of school on Aug. 19!
Our records indicate you selected the In-Person Learning Pathway for your middle school student. If this is not what you intended, please contact your campus immediately to verify the selection on your commitment form, which closed on Aug. 5. If you have children enrolled in the in-person elementary or high school pathway, you will receive separate communication for those students.
As a reminder, all LISD students will begin the school year on Aug. 19 learning remotely from home. Students on the in-person learning pathway will return to campuses Sept. 8.
Please remember, the commitment to a learning pathway is a 9-week grading period, and can only be changed at the end of a grading period.
SCHEDULES
We know many of you are anxious to receive your class schedules for the year. Below is a timeline for schedule information:
Monday, Aug 17
- Students will begin to receive WebEx invitations from their teachers. WebEx invitations will be completed by the end of day Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Tuesday, Aug. 18:
- Students will receive finalized class schedules. Details about extracurricular activities, such as Fine Arts or Athletics, will come directly from your campus.
Please know, district administration was not able to begin completing master schedules for campuses until August 6 - the day after the commitment forms closed. We appreciate your patience as we have worked tirelessly to accomplish a task in two short weeks that normally takes months to complete.
BELL SCHEDULES
While we are in remote learning, students will follow the middle school remote learning A/B schedule. On the first day of school, Aug. 19, students will begin the day on “A-Day”. Once we return to in-person learning on Sept. 8, students will follow the in-person learning A/B schedule.
REMOTE LEARNING GUIDEBOOK
We know you are anxious and have many questions about what remote learning will look like for your middle school student, and might be wondering what you should be prepared for come Aug. 19. The district has compiled some information for you in our Middle School Remote Learning guidebook. Please know, our LISD teachers have got you. You are not expected to be experts at providing instruction for your child while we are in remote learning.
DEVICES
As we begin classes remotely on Aug. 19, please be sure your technology devices are available and working. If your student needs a district device to complete their assignments, please login to your Skyward Family Access account to complete your back-to-school forms, where you will find the opportunity to request a device and select a pick-up day/time. For more information, visit LISD.net.
ATTENDANCE
As a reminder, attendance WILL BE taken daily for students during remote learning, as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Attendance will be based on specific engagement in learning each day according to expectations communicated by your child’s teacher. Students can expect to be LIVE with teachers throughout the week during school hours. Daily participation via WebEx is expected for all students, for all classes.
We are so proud to partner with you in the education of your students. We thank you for choosing LISD!
