Information for Last Month of School and Summer Camps

This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Friday, May 6th is also National School Lunch Hero Day. Please take a moment to thank your child’s teachers this week. Gifts are nice, but teachers really value your notes, and they especially cherish notes from their students. Maria Tapia ( is our wonderful cafeteria manager. Feel free to send a note to Maria and her hardworking cafeteria staff. They take great care of our students at breakfast and lunch.


Thank you to all of you who provided donations and especially to the McKamy PTA volunteers who worked long hours Friday and stayed late to ensure a fun and memorable 8th Grade Dance.  


May 3: Algebra EOC – Algebra students should bring iPad fully charged and charger
May 4: make-ups for Algebra EOC (8th Grade Soccer Girls)
May 5: 8th Science STAAR – bring graphing calculator
May 6: 8th Social Studies STAAR

May 10: 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Math STAAR (Non-testing Algebra students are in self-contained rooms. 8th Graders and 7th Grade Honors Students - Bring graphing calculator and/or iPad if using DESMOS.  Make sure it is charged.)

May 11: 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Reading STAAR

May 12 and 13: To the extent that time allows, make-up days will be used to test any student who misses a STAAR test.

Students will have an opportunity to order a sack lunch from the cafeteria on days they are testing or students can bring lunch from home.  NO lunch deliveries will be accepted on STAAR testing days.

Adjustments to Schedule for STAAR:
May 2: 8-Period Day (no change)
May 3: 8-Period Tuesday with Advisory
May 4: 8 Period Day (Wednesday)
May 5: Even Block (no change)
May 6: Odd Block (a Friday)
May 9: 8-Period Day (no change)
May 10: Mini-Even Block in the afternoon
May 11: Mini-Odd Block in the afternoon
May 12: 8-Period Day (a Thursday)
May 13: 8-Period Day (no change)

Our next McKamy General Membership Meeting is May 12, 6:00pm in the Cafeteria. This meeting will cover executive board elections, proposed budget amendments for our current budget, proposed 2023 budget and proposed changes to our current Standing Rules. 

McKamy PTA is re-applying to be a National PTA School of Excellence. We earned this recognition a few years ago. Please complete this brief survey as part of our application process. The deadline is this Tuesday, May 3. Thanks for taking a moment to give us your feedback.


Save the Date: McKamy’s 2022-2023 Squire Camp/Orientation is July 28th. The first day of the 2022-2023 School Year is August 10.

Do you know a McKamy Alumni who is a High School Senior this year? Our Senior Alumni Ice Cream Social is Tuesday, May 24th, 4:30-5:30pm in the McKamy Cafeteria. 


The Annual Jag Mile is just around the corner on Saturday, May 21st.  The Flower Mound High School Track & Field team hosts this event to encourage the love of running and hopefully spark some interest for our future Jaguar Track & Field athletes.  Email with questions.

If your child will enter 7th Grade at McKamy next year, please click and save THIS IMPORTANT LINK from Nurse Holly. There are updated immunizations that are required for all incoming 7th Graders by the State of Texas each year before the first day of school. Your child will not be allowed to start school on August 10, 2022 without them. Note this does not include the COVID vaccine. This law has been in place for many years in Texas. Please check with Nurse Holly ASAP to make sure your child’s immunizations are up to date and we have these records on file: Please, please do not wait until the last minute to do this.
