Flower Mound Chamber Awards - March 2025

McKamy Middle School student Aria LaBarbera, teacher Ms. Das, and school were all recognized at the Flower Mound Chamber's monthly luncheon held at the Cross Timbers YMCA in Flower Mound on Tuesday, March 18. 

Student of the Month – Aria LaBarbera
Aria LaBarbera is an 8th grade student at McKamy Middle School, who takes all honors and GT courses. She is the student council co-president, which allows her to serve her school and community. Which service overlaps with Aria’s goals as an NJHS member at large: to accelerate at scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship. Aria’s hopes and effort to make a positive impact all over the school attributes to another one of her clubs: the McKamy principal advisory committee team or MPACT. Through all the clubs she participates in, Aria is very grateful to represent and be Flower Mound Chamber Student of the Month.

Teacher of the Month – Anindita Das
Ms. Das is McKamy’s 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year. Selected by her colleagues, Anindita was chosen for her exemplary classroom instruction as well as her many contributions to the school. In addition to teaching 7th and 8th grade Math, she sponsors the campus National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) which is the largest student organization on the campus. Each year, she leads the NJHS fundraiser for the American Heart Association as well as other service projects, and she manages the NJHS induction ceremony. Additionally, Anindita is a member of the committee that plans McKamy’s largest annual community event, Culturally U-Knighted. Anindita is kind and selfless. She is always the first to volunteer to help a student or staff member.

School of the Month – McKamy Middle School
McKamy Middle School has a rich tradition of excellence: Best Public Middle School in Denton County the past several years; Apple Distinguished School, National PTA School of Excellence; National Common-Sense School, and a Texas ERP Honor Roll School. Students at McKamy excel academically as well as in extracurricular endeavors. In fact, McKamy has produced a National Spelling Bee Champion. Families at the school represent cultures from around the world, and they enjoy celebrating these cultures at an annual Culturally U-Knighted event. McKamy’s dedicated and experienced staff is proud to serve over 750 students.
