Flower Mound Chamber Awards | March 2023
McKamy Middle School student Abigail Dressell, teacher Claudia Oh and the school were all recognized by the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber's March luncheon at the Courtyard Marriott in Flower Mound, Texas.
Student of the Month - Abigail Dressell
McKamy Middle School student Abigail Dressell is not your ordinary 8th-grader. She is a gifted and talented student who skipped a grade a few years ago, and she is Autistic. Abigail recently inspired and educated her principal, LISD Superintendent, and a large room of school board members from across Texas. In fact, she received a standing ovation for her 45-minute presentation at a State School Board Conference for her presentation on Autism. Give her a few minutes, and she will forever change your perceptions of Autism, too. Abigail Dressell is not a future leader. She is making a difference in the world right now. McKamy Middle School is so proud to have her as a student. During her free time, she likes to read, swim and sing. She looks up to the people in her community who have the courage to make a positive impact in society.
Teacher of the Month - Claudia Oh
In her role as a Special Education Teacher at McKamy Middle School, Claudia Oh serves the needs of some of our most at-risk students. She patiently bridges learning gaps for students who are one to three years below grade level. Ms. Oh serves as the unofficial campus interpreter for McKamy’s growing emergent bilingual students from Korea. She recently helped one of those students and his family navigate the healthcare system when the student experienced an injury. Ms. Oh represents McKamy on the prestigious LISD long-range planning committee. She was the only teacher to present at a recent LISD board meeting on behalf of this committee. During her free time, she likes to do yoga, read and watch tennis. She looks up to Michelle Obama because she is intelligent, down-to-earth, funny and confident.
