Middle School Mitigation Measures | Aug. 25
As circumstances change daily regarding the latest with COVID-19, we want to update you on the most recent changes to LISD’s mitigation efforts for middle schools.
WHAT’S NEW
Middle School Mitigation Tiers
LISD is monitoring circumstances on a daily basis, and plans to utilize a tiered mitigation system for health and safety protocols. By Monday, Aug. 30 and until further notice, LISD middle schools will operate in Tier 2 of the mitigation measures. For details, visit LISD.net/msmitigation. Important notes for Tier 2 at the middle school level are included below.
TIER 2 MITIGATION MEASURES
Masks
Masks are requested for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. Although we are not legally able to require masks, we are asking all families who are willing to do so to send students to school in masks. We will make the same request of our staff.
Quarantine
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 26, students in grade six and below will be required to quarantine if they share a home with any individual who is lab-confirmed COVID positive. If your child is living with someone who is COVID positive, please contact the COVID call center (hours of operation). Families will receive the student’s plan and quarantine dates through the call center; absences for the mandatory quarantine period will be excused.
Positive Case Notification
Starting Monday, Aug. 30, school personnel will send home campus-wide notifications to all families of positive COVID cases reported on campus. Any person identified who had a prolonged exposure will be notified individually and given the appropriate protocol to follow based upon the most current public health guidelines and in consultation with the Denton County Health department.
COVID Tracker
Starting Monday, Aug. 30, all lab-confirmed positive cases reported to campus and/or district personnel will be tracked on a daily (Monday-Friday) basis at LISD.net/covidtracker. The first daily update will be Tuesday, Aug. 31 and will reflect Monday’s cases. Case numbers will be updated everyday for cases reported to the district for the day prior. Cases reported to the district on Friday’s will be updated the following Monday. The tracker is not a real-time system.
Attendance Awards
We urge families to keep their children home if they have any symptoms of COVID, or any other illness. Campuses will no longer track perfect attendance or attendance awards for the 2021-22 school year.
REMINDERS
LISD will continue the following mitigation efforts:
- Close contact tracing
- Regular cleaning of shared materials
- Electrostatic cleaning
- Air purifiers in 6th grade classrooms
- Physical distancing when possible
- Desks shields are available
- Excused absences for students who are identified as close contact for voluntary quarantine
