Lakeview | Teacher of the Month
Nov. 15, 2018 — Melissa Shanahan of Lakeview Middle School has been selected as The Colony Chamber of Commerce/DATCU Credit Union November Teacher of the Month – the third honoree of the 2018-2019 school year.
Shanahan, an English/Language Arts teacher, was honored because of her dedication and energy given each day to her students and school. Shanahan has taken on many leadership roles at Lakeview, including serving as lead ESL teacher, department chair, yearbook sponsor and new teacher mentor. She creates meaningful and relevant learning opportunities for her students, and her classroom is described as a safe environment for students to think critically and take risks in their learning. Shanahan models teamwork and cooperation, and her principal says she is a wonderful teacher and an even better person.
“It’s an honor,” Shanahan said. “I love what I do and the people and students I get to work with. I feel like everyone does a great job at Lakeview, and I feel blessed to have been chosen as The Colony Chamber’s Teacher of the Month.”
Shanahan was honored with the award, which is sponsored by DATCU Credit Union, on Nov. 15 at the Chamber’s monthly luncheon held at The Colony City Hall Annex. DATCU Community Relations Coordinator Mary Jacoby and Chamber Director of Membership Judy Ensweiler made the presentation. Shanahan was joined at the event by Lakeview Principal Jeremy Turner.
