Yanda, who teaches English Language Arts, was selected as the winner by Chamber representatives. The prestigious award, which is in it's eighth year and sponsored by CoServ, honors a teacher who consistently goes above and beyond regular duties to truly make an impact on their school, Lewisville ISD and the community.

After her graduation from Southern Arkansas University in 2003, Yanda used her degree in Secondary English Education to begin her journey as an educator at Hedrick Middle School in Lewisville, Texas. There she taught seventh and eighth grade English language arts for 13 years and she was named Hedrick's Teacher of the Year during the 2014-2015 school year.

Then, Yanda had the opportunity to grow exponentially when she accepted a position in LISD's Learning and Teaching Department as a Secondary English Learning Facilitator. As a facilitator, she spent three years writing district curriculum, designing learning experiences for students and supporting English teachers across nine campuses.

In 2019, Yanda decided her true calling was in the classroom, and she accepted a position at Killian Middle School in Lewisville, Texas. She currently teaches 7th grade English language arts, serves as a reading interventionist, a new teacher mentor, and co-sponsors the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club.

"Mrs. Yanda’s love for teaching and students is contagious," Killian Middle School Principal Dr. Tina Krol said. "She not only makes reading and writing engaging, but also builds relationships that last a lifetime. She is a true leader at Killian and her influence on all of us will impact students for years to come."
