Dec. 18, 2018 — Barbara Large of Hedrick Middle School has been selected as the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce/Huffines Auto Dealership-Lewisville November Teacher of the Month — the third honoree of the 2018-2019 school year.
Large is described as a blessing to her school and the LEAP (Learning Enrichment Academic Program) students – sixth-, seventh and eighth-grade – who are lucky enough to be in her class.
Students continuously talk about how Large has made a difference in their lives because of the high standards she sets in the classroom. Current and former students say she is tough but in a way that makes them want to excel. Because of incredible instruction and high standards, her LEAP students go on to graduate at the top of their class at Lewisville High School and several have been Valedictorians and Salutatorians.
“I am extremely honored to be named Teacher of the Month and represent Hedrick Middle School,” Large said. “The students I have are the cream of the crop. They make it easy for me.”
Large accepted the award Dec. 18 at the Chamber’s holiday luncheon held at Bridlewood Golf Club. Huffines Auto Dealership-Lewisville Business Relations Director Fred Whitfield and Chamber Board Chair Dan Irvin made the presentation. Large was joined at the luncheon by her husband, John, as well as HMS Principal Barbara Hamric.
Huffines Auto Dealership-Lewisville will present Large with her award on campus next month.
