Griffin Middle School’s Michael Butler Named The Colony Chamber of Commerce/DATCU Credit Union October Student of the Month

butler Oct. 18, 2018 – Griffin Middle School eighth-grader Michael Butler has been selected as The Colony Chamber of Commerce/DATCU Credit Union October Student of the Month – the second honoree of the 2018-2019 school year.

Butler is described as a true student-leader who goes above and beyond in both academics and athletics. He is also known for his amazing attitude, excellent communication skills and willingness to help others when they are struggling in any aspect of their lives.

Butler is not only a mentor to eighth-grade peers, but students from all grade levels. If a student is eating alone in the cafeteria, he can always be seen sitting down with them and introducing himself.

butler2 “I’m proud and happy to be recognized as Student of the Month,” Butler said. “I always try to help people. My parents have taught me that – always try to put others before yourself.”

Butler accepted the award, which is sponsored by DATCU Credit Union, on Oct. 18 at the Chamber’s monthly luncheon held at The Colony City Hall Annex. DATCU Community Relations Coordinator Mary Jacoby and Chamber President Robyn Holtz made the presentation. Butler was joined at the event by his parents, Mike and Brandy, brother, Isaac, grandparents, Chris and Gina Benson, aunt, Ashley Rue, and GMS Principal Amy Boughton.
