Griffin Family Update | Nov. 16

Griffin Middle School Families,

Earlier today, Lewisville ISD administration made the difficult decision to temporarily transition Griffin to remote learning for the remainder of the week. Griffin is currently experiencing an increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases and quarantined staff and students. With these rising numbers and the limited availability of substitute teachers to provide instruction, LISD and Griffin administrators believe this is the best decision.

The well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority, and while we know this decision will create some strains for families, this temporary shift to remote learning will help keep students and staff as healthy and safe as possible.

Remote Learning - Nov. 17-Nov. 20
Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 17 through Friday, Nov. 20, Griffin will be closed to in-person, on-campus learning. This also applies to virtual plus learners who may only come to campus for elective courses. Griffin students will bring all necessary instructional materials home from school today, Monday, Nov. 16. Students will follow their schedule from home and are expected to be online for class each day. Attendance will continue to be taken during this remote learning period. The school will undergo a deep cleaning to prepare for the return of students after Thanksgiving break.

In-person, on-campus learning will resume Monday, Nov. 30.

Free Meals Pick-Up
While Griffin is closed, students will be able to receive free curbside breakfast and lunch meals from nearby locations:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 17 | Peters Colony Elementary will be open for Griffin students to pick up both breakfast and lunch meals from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 18 | Camey, Peters Colony and Stewart’s Creek elementaries will serve breakfast and lunch meals for Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 19 | All sites will be closed for meal pick-up.
  • Friday, Nov. 20 | Camey, Peters Colony and Stewart’s Creek elementaries will serve breakfast and lunch meals for Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • For additional meal sites and information, visit LISD.net/freemeals

Device and Wi-Fi Access
If your student now needs a device, or if your family does not have internet access at home and needs access to a wireless hotspot, please fill out the Technical Loan Agreement Form. The form requires your child’s student ID and birthdate, and will autofill your student’s name. After completing the form, LISD Technology will contact you to arrange a time to pick-up the technology needed for your student. Additionally, there are other locations within the community providing free Wi-Fi access.

COVID Call Center
If your student tests positive for COVID-19 while Griffin is closed to in-person learning, it is crucial your family notifies the LISD COVID call center at 469-444-3558. The center is available Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

As our communities continue to experience a rise in COVID-19 cases, we want to remind everyone the importance of following health guidelines such as maintaining social distance, wearing a face mask, washing hands regularly and staying home when feeling ill. It takes all of us doing our part to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and avoid future school closures.

Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of our school.
